About The American Pitbull Breed

The Pit Bull Terrier was created by breeding English Terriers and English Bulldogs together to produce a dog that combined the gameness of the terrier with the strength and athleticism of the bulldog. These dogs (named Bull and Terriers) were bred in the British Isles, and arrived in the United States where they became the direct ancestors of the American Pitbull Terrier.
Pitbull Terriers successfully fill the role of companion dogs, and police dogs, therapy and also make great house dog (pets) despite the fact that the breed remains highly misunderstood today because of irresponsible owners and a proliferation of myths.
